Making a Donation
The Bethel Volunteer Fire Department relies on the generosity
of the residents it serves to fund its ambulance service. This service, which
is available at no charge, receives little taxpayer money. Instead, the cost
of ambulance supplies and maintenance,
as well as the purchase of new ambulances when necessary, is covered entirely
by donations.
Most of these donations take the form of contributions during the department's
annual fund drive each spring. Letters seeking donations are mailed to all homes
and businesses in the department's primary response area (the area of town south
of Rockwell Road). Those who do not mail in donations are visited by members
of the department, who go door to door seeking contributions on the first Sunday
in May.
However, donations are welcome throughout the year. Tax-deductible contributions
payable to the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department can be sent to 38 South Street,
Bethel, CT 06801. The department also welcomes donations of vehicles, which
are used for fire suppression and extrication drills. If you have a vehicle
that you would like to donate, call the department at 794-8521.
