Aerial TowerThe aerial tower is a 1977 Sutphen Quint. It has an 85-foot aerial, a 1,000-gallon-per-minute single-stage pump and a 300-gallon water tank. The vehicle is used for ventilation, forcible entry, rescue, laddering a building and, as a last resort, master stream applications. For ventilation, it carries three power saws, two gas-powered positive pressure blowers and numerous axes and pike poles. For forcible entry, it has several Halligan tools, "K" tools and pry bars. Rescue equipment includes a Stokes basket, a technical rope rescue system and a 4:1 lifting/raising system. To ladder a building to perform roof operations, outside vent and entry, the truck carries 45-, 35-, 30-, 18- and 16-foot ladders and three 10-foot ladders. For fire attack, the vehicle carries 1,100 feet of 5-inch supply hose, two 200-foot crosslays of 1.75-inch hose and 250 feet of 2.5-inch hose in the compartments. The bucket has two guns, one with a smooth-bore nozzle and the other with a fog nozzle. For electrical supply, a 2,000-watt generator is used. |

Rescue 1This is a 2003 Kenworth T300 with a 20-foot Rescue One body. This vehicle's main job is to carry all the items needed for rescue calls, which range from motor vehicle accidents to water emergencies. It has a 20,000-watt PTO-driven generator and supplies electrical power to 10 portable ground lights, six body-mounted lights and the electric Hurst tool motor. Extrication is performed with the Jaws of Life. A well-rounded set of tools includes one electric motor, one four-cycle gasoline motor, one Pallidan tool, one "O" cutter, one Road Runner tool, two combi tools, one 32B spreader, three hydraulic rams (20, 30 and 60 inches long) and over 200 feet of hydraulic hose. Many different accessories and tips are stocked for each Hurst product. The truck also has a 32-ton high-pressure Maxiforce airbag system that consists of six airbags, and the air is supplied by the vehicle's cascade system. For water operations, the truck carries both cold water/ice water rescue and scuba equipment. The scuba equipment consists of four complete sets of dive gear and a 10-foot inflatable raft. Cold water/ice rescue equipment consists of four immersion suits, which allow the rescuers to enter extremely cold water without the danger of hypothermia. Several hundred feet of rope and special harnesses are also available for water use only. Rope rescue equipment includes several sets of special rapelling rope, 10 harnesses and a 6:1 raising system. The truck's assorted equipment includes caribiners, figure 8s and pulleys. The vehicle also carries medical supplies similar to the ambulance's. The rescue truck has a four-bottle cascade system with a booster pump, which allows the system to replenish 80 SCBA bottles. It carries 30 spare SCBA bottles and a full set of truck company tools. |
